BridgePal Server Release 2.4.2
« on: June 09, 2022, 18:35:57 »
There is a new release of BridgePal Server available. You can download and install v2.4.2 from the "Download PC Components" page of the BridgePal website (second button on the page). Alternatively, if using BridgeScore as the scoring program, you can select "Upgrade/Install Latest BridgePal Server" from the BridgeScore menu bar. Note that BridgePal Server v2.4.2 requires BridgePalServices 2.0.0 or later, and BridgeScore 4.0.0 or later.

This release improves support for Individual events, when used with scoring programs that support them, for example PairsScorer, EBUScore, Scorebridge.

In earlier releases it was possible to use BridgePal to enter scores for an Individual event, and to enter player names before the first round, but the player names displayed for the South & West players in subsequent rounds would be incorrect. Similarly, the Move instructions at the end of a round did not include instructions for South & West players. It should be noted that these issues did not affect the correctness of the results calculated and displayed by the scoring program.

These issues have now been addressed in this release of BridgePal Server. There are some additional points worth noting:

1. BridgePal will now disable display of the ranking list and scorecard for Individual events. These can be viewed in the scoring program or when the results are uploaded to a website.

2. The ability to display names and move instructions for South & West players is dependent on the scoring program providing the necessary fields in the wireless database. EBUScore, Scorebridge, and PairsScorer do so, but ACBLScore does not. Therefore, if using BridgePal with ACBLScore for an Individual event, the event type should be intialised to Pairs in BridgePal Server after the event has been started, and the display of ranking, seating at end of round, and scorecard at end of session should be disabled.

3. If the number of players in an Individual event is not a multiple of four, then some players will sitout in the first round. However, the above scoring programs do not always create a sitout table in the wireless database. In this case it is not possible to record player names on BridgePal for any players who sitout in Round 1, nor is it possible to input them in subsequent rounds (because in order to update the wireless database it is necessary to know at which table and position they were seated in the first round). On the player number entry screen the input fields for these players will display "N/A" and player numbers cannot be entered into these fields. These player numbers must instead be entered in the scoring program.

Finally, for those clubs using BridgeScore as the scoring program, it should be noted that BridgeScore does not support Individual events. It would be necessary to use one of the above alternative programs for running Individual events with BridgePal.
