Wifi router
« on: January 29, 2017, 21:52:02 »
It looks as though the router we  are currently using is about to pass away.  What routers do people use and what specs do I need to look for when buying a replacement?

I know that Reg Hull at Oxted bridge club has just purchased a NetGear N300 Model WNR2000 from Maplin. This is an end of line model so they may not have many left in stock. I don't know if he has yet tested it in a club session.

You don't need an expensive model, as the application is low throughput. It doesn't need to support the latest wireless-ac standard. Wireless-n or even wireless-g is sufficient. Probably expect to spend something in the range of 25 pounds to 40 pounds.

Difficulty with recommending a specific model is that new routers are appearing all the time. The one we use at Chislehurst, for example, is an Asus RT-N12 B1, but this is several years old so would not be obtainable now except on the second hand market.

Also see 'Club Kits' in 'Club Tips' to see what people use.
