Problem resetting the system
« on: February 07, 2020, 19:38:35 »
We had a trial run with the BridgePal system, and then a week or so later we attempted to go live.  However the tablets were still showing the results from our earlier trial.  On the laptop, using EBU Score Pairs, we had several attempts to reset the program.  Several times we set the movement, went to the Bridgemate scoring page and pressed the Set BCS Options, Create Database and Launch BCS buttons, overwriting the database when we were prompted to.  We also tried deleting the event and starting over, but to no avail.

Clearly we have missed something, and we would appreciate advice.

Hi,

Not sure exactly what sequence of operations you were performing, but you mention you were prompted to overwrite the database. That wouldn't be part of the normal sequence. The steps should be:

1. Define new event
2. Set up the movement
3. Go to the scoring screen
4. Set BCS Options (can probably skip this if they are always the same)
5. Click Create Database button
6. Click Launch BPCS button

If you follow the above sequence you will not be prompted to overwrite a database. If you now wish to close this event and start a new one, without rebooting the PC, you must close down BridgePal Server manually (by clicking on the close box on its window) since EBUScore Pairs will not close it down automatically. If you forget to do this you will get a message to the effect that it is already running when you click the Launch BPCS button. If this happens you can just close down BridgePal Server and then click on Launch BPCS again.

If the above procedure is followed the BridgePals will automatically connect to the new event the next time that you perform an action that requires communication with the PC, e.g. for example tapping OK on the contract entry screen. This will take the phone or tablet back to the initial screen (the one with the Start button).

Thank you for your help.  After carefully reading your notes, we came to the conclusion that we must have let the laptop hibernate when we stopped the trial event, rather than shutting it down properly.  We have paid attention to this point, and have successfully run two club events.  We are very pleased with the system.

Thank you

Dave

Looks like we had a similar issue with the clients last night.
Scorer set up the event for a movement with a half table, clients started to log on.  A player withdrew at this point and the movement had to be changed.
The clients still held the details from the original movement and data entry, which the scorer was unable to resolve.
Looks like the solution above should cover this situation.
Also, It looks like using director function 'reset table' might also have resolved the issue?

When you change the movement, you need to define the new event. So first stop wireless scoring - depending on the scoring program, you will need to stop the server as well - some scoring programs stop the server too when you stop wireless scoring. Then define and start the new event and BridgePals will start from the beginning.
