BridgePal Phones/Tablets / Re: Amazon Fire tablets - change launcher
« Last post by jeremychildexeter on March 21, 2023, 11:19:50 »I wouldn't want to disable the back button because it provides the means to exit and restart the app if there is any issue. It does ask the user "Do you really want to exit BridgePal ?", so they do get an opportunity to say no. If they do go ahead and exit the app it will, when restarted, resume at the same point in the session from which it exited.
I get that most people would not want the back button disabled, which is why I suggested it as an option.
(As an aside, having exit as a menu option instead would lead to less accidental exits - but I don't know how many of those you get in practice.)
And yes, you can restart it, but that exposes the user to the Fire's unfriendly user interface.
Also, doesn't the Home button still return to the desktop ? I don't think you can disable that except by making BridgePal the launcher, which you can't do on the Fire tablet.
No the home button doesn't. In pinned mode, none of the navigation buttons work unless the app processes them. That's the point of pinned mode - the user cannot get out of it. https://support.google.com/android/answer/9455138?hl=en-GB
Of course you can exit from pinned mode, but it requires touching two (or three) navigation buttons at the same time, and can be security protected (requiring password/pattern/pin).
It's an ideal way to enable kiosk mode without paying for it.
